Unposed & Documentary Manchester Wedding Photographer

Hey, I’m James, the eye behind Cherished Images and winner of the Hitched 2026 Wedding Award. I’m a documentary Manchester wedding photographer, capturing your day in an honest, unscripted way. My photography focuses entirely on authentic storytelling with a natural, cinematic feel.
I’m available for full-day weddings for couples who want their story captured from morning prep until the dancing is in full swing, as well as intimate city elopements and micro weddings for smaller, quiet celebrations.
I work with couples who want a relaxed, fun wedding and who invest in meaningful photography to reflect the real atmosphere and genuine emotions of the day. I’m incredibly dedicated to keeping your experience entirely stress-free. I’ve documented weddings all over Manchester, from the industrial, atmospheric skylines of the city centre to historic spaces and beautifully converted cotton mills across the region.

Natural Wedding Portraits & Urban Backdrops in Manchester

Some of my absolute favourite celebrations have been captured right here in the city centre. Manchester is full of hidden spots and striking architecture that act as the perfect framing for natural portraits.

Whether you prefer the red-brick, urban backdrop of Manchester’s Northern Quarter, the historic streets of Ancoats and Castlefield, or a quiet park on the edge of the city, I’ll make sure to capture you naturally in the places you love most. There is no forced choreography required; we will simply go for a short, casual walk to enjoy the amazing grit and architecture this city has to offer while keeping you completely relaxed and away from the camera's glare.

Documenting Every Real Moment of Your Day

Photos with your family and closest friends will be some of your most cherished memories. When it comes to capturing your loved ones, my approach is all about honest, unposed documentary photography that instantly takes you back to the exact split second it happened.

Think of a dad giving his daughter away, mums getting emotional during the speeches, or friends sharing a loud laugh at the bar. My relaxed style completely rejects rigid, forced configurations, meaning you will be able to completely enjoy your celebration and relive all your favourite memories again and again.

Real-World Experience at Manchester’s Finest Venues

I’ve photographed weddings in a massive range of unique spaces throughout Manchester and the wider North West, adapting dynamically to the atmospheric, moody light of these historic structures:

Manchester Town Hall: A high-Victorian Gothic landmark. Discover how I balance its grand civic scale, iconic stone staircases, and tricky directional light with unscripted intimacy in my Manchester Town Hall Wedding Gallery.

The Monastery, Manchester: The Great Nave is breathtaking. Learn how I utilize the towering Gothic windows to capture cinematic images without losing the closeness of your ceremony in my Monastery Manchester Venue Guide.

The Albert Halls: A beautiful Victorian venue with deep balconies. Read how I master its unique ambient light using symmetry and natural window spill in my Albert Halls Wedding Photography Guide.

Iconic City Venues: I am equally at home documenting celebrations across Manchester's most recognisable spaces, including the historic stone walls of Victoria Baths, the luxury city view backdrops at King Street Townhouse, the grand traditional settings of The Midland Hotel, and contemporary urban spaces like The Lowry, Five Four Studios, Quarry Bank Mill, and the Didsbury Parsonage.

It really is one of the best areas in the UK to host a wide variety of weddings. If you love my relaxed style and feel my honest storytelling approach is the perfect fit for your day, I would love to hear from you.

We picked James after viewing his portfolio as we know documentary style is what we wanted. When he showed a couple of the photos he has taken to us during the day, we knew that we made the right decision, the shots that he had taken are exactly what we wanted. James was really professional and gave us just the right guidance on this day. Even the priest commented to us that he was impressed that James managed to get such great shots without disrupting the service in anyway. It was really great to have James as our photographer on the day.
