A Relaxed, Joyful Family Wedding at Runcorn Town Hall | Scarlet & Graeme
When Scarlet first reached out to me, she had a very clear vision for her wedding day. She and Graeme were planning a small, intimate celebration at the beautiful Runcorn Town Hall, and they wanted photography that matched their vibe: natural, honest, and completely family-friendly.
With three young children to think about, the priority was keeping things relaxed and flexible. No stiff, awkward posing, and no overly heavy editing—just the real story of their day.

A Bride with an Eye for Photography
One of the things I loved most about working with Scarlet is that she actually has a background in photography herself. She had a incredibly sharp eye for tones, composition, and authenticity, and she knew exactly what she liked (and what she didn’t).
During our initial chats, she shared some examples of the warmer, natural edits she loved. We spent time discussing my documentary approach and how we could capture what mattered most to her: the unscripted moments, the kids' reactions, the emotional walk down the aisle, the ceremony itself, and just a handful of meaningful family portraits.

TikTok Trends & Pre-Wedding Planning
In the lead-up to the wedding, we kept communication completely open and easy. We talked through her list of must-have shots, shared a few laughs about the beautiful chaos of managing energetic little ones (we both have children of similar ages, so I completely understood!), and even exchanged a few fun ideas we’d seen on TikTok to bring some energy into the group portraits.
Scarlet even sent over some photos of the kids beforehand so I’d know exactly who to look out for on the day. It was a lovely, personal touch that made the wedding morning run incredibly smoothly.

The Wedding Day at Runcorn Town Hall
On the day itself, everything just clicked. Scarlet, Graeme, and their children have a family dynamic that is full of warmth, humour, and genuine affection. Because they kept their guest list small, there was no rushing around. We had all the time we needed to capture each moment without any pressure.
They were a dream to work with—completely relaxed, trusting of my process, and entirely focused on simply enjoying their day together rather than worrying about the camera. Runcorn Town Hall provided the perfect elegant backdrop, from the beautiful light in the ceremony room to the classic architecture of the sweeping staircase for their couple portraits.

The Final Gallery
The energy from their wedding was so infectious that when I got home that evening, I couldn't resist diving straight into the edit. By the following week, their full gallery was ready to view.
When I sent the finished images over, Scarlet sent back the loveliest message:
"They are amazing. So much laughing in them — it was so much fun! James did an outstanding job at our wedding. He managed to capture lots of natural shots, as well as organising group photos, including perfect photos of the service itself. Certainly a masterclass of photography."
Moments like that are exactly why I love photographing weddings. Every couple’s story is different, and Scarlet and Graeme’s was a joy from start to finish—a celebration full of personality, colour, and the kind of natural moments that define what documentary wedding photography is all about.
