There is something genuinely special about a wedding where the focus is entirely on connection, rather than production. Annette and Martin’s day at The Lodge in Mesnes Park was the perfect blend of relaxed, heartfelt, and quietly elegant.
As a documentary wedding photographer, these are exactly the kind of days I love capturing. They chose this beautiful little corner of Wigan for its character: the historic parkland, the tree-lined pathways, and the soft natural light that always seems to hang over The Lodge. From the minute I arrived, their day unfolded in that beautifully natural way that makes storytelling feel completely effortless.
Doing Things Their Way: Keeping it Simple

Annette and Martin intentionally kept things simple. They surrounded themselves with close family, meaningful details, and set a pace that allowed everyone to simply breathe and enjoy the moment. There was no rushing, just genuine emotion.
The Lodge is brilliant for this type of atmosphere. Because it sits right in the heart of the park, it immediately sets a peaceful tone for the day.

Inside The Lodge, the atmosphere stayed warm and incredibly intimate. The modern, minimalist design of the room and the glass frontage allow natural light to spill perfectly across the space.
During the ceremony, guests mingled, kids played, and everything just felt easy. That beautiful natural light gave us soft, emotional frames where you could almost feel the quiet moments between Annette and Martin as they said their vows.

One of the standout moments of any wedding at Mesnes Park is the exit. Stepping straight out of the ceremony and onto the sweeping steps of The Lodge makes for the perfect confetti shot.
Annette and Martin’s exit had that brilliant mix of laughter and slight chaos that always creates magic on camera. They handled it like pros, laughing the entire way through the shower of petals.

I always talk about storytelling over staging, and our walk through the park for their portraits is exactly why. Mesnes Park is a place they clearly love, and that comfort shows in the images.
We took a short stroll, utilising those soft, timeless backdrops the park provides—the little hidden corners, the ornamental gardens, and the long stretches of path where they could just chat, laugh, and forget I was even there.
As we wrapped up the portraits by the bandstand, the light dipped just enough to give us that cinematic glow the park is known for. Those final frames summed up their whole day perfectly: calm, joyful, and deeply personal.
