Manchester Town Hall & Registry Wedding Photography

Town Hall Manchester - Cherished Images

Manchester Town Hall is the heartbeat of the city. While the historic Great Hall undergoes its massive restoration (scheduled to reopen 2026/27), the wedding magic hasn't stopped—it has just moved next door.

Ceremonies are currently held in the stunning Town Hall Extension and Manchester Central Library. As a specialist Manchester City Centre photographer, I know exactly how to use these spaces to create images that feel just as grand, timeless, and "Mancunian" as the original building.

Photographing the "New" Town Hall Experience

Don't let the scaffolding put you off. The current ceremony spaces are incredible, and I know the logistical secrets to getting the best photos there:

The Town Hall Extension: The ceremony rooms here feature high ceilings, wood panelling, and huge windows. Unlike the dark corners of the old building, the light here is fantastic, allowing for crisp, natural documentary shots without flash.

Library Walk: This is my "Secret Weapon." The curved glass walkway between the Town Hall and the Library is architecturally stunning and, crucially, covered. It is the perfect spot for portraits if it rains.

St Peter's Square: If you want that modern, urban energy, we step right out onto the square. I use the trams and the library columns to frame you against the city bustle.

Real Wedding Feature: Becky & Brian

I recently documented Becky and Brian’s civil ceremony in the Extension. They were worried about being "awkward" in front of the camera, but the architecture helped them relax.
We spent 15 minutes dodging the rain in Library Walk, creating a set of portraits that look like a movie set. It was the perfect example of my "No-Fuss" approach: using the city’s geometry to make the couple look amazing without asking them to pose for hours.

Logistics & Travel

Parking: The city is busy. I always recommend guests park at the NCP Manchester Central or use the tram (St Peter's Square stop is literally outside the door).

Timings: Registrars here run a tight ship. I arrive 30 minutes early to capture guests arriving in the square and to scout the light in the portico.

Nearby Venues: Many couples have their ceremony here and move on to The Midland or The Northern Quarter for their reception. I know the quickest routes to get you there without getting stuck in traffic.

"From the moment James arrived on the morning of our Manchester Town Hall wedding, we both felt completely at ease. Neither of us are naturals in front of a camera, but James blended into the day so effortlessly that we almost forgot we were being photographed"

FAQs — Planning Your Town Hall Wedding

Can we still have a "Town Hall" wedding while the main building is closed for renovation?

Absolutely. Ceremonies are currently held in the Town Hall Extension and Manchester Central Library. These spaces offer a beautiful blend of historic stone and modern light. As a local expert, I know exactly how to use these "new" spaces to get those iconic city-centre shots you’re looking for.

Where are the best spots for photos if Albert Square is busy or fenced off?

Manchester is full of hidden gems. I often take couples to the Library Walk arches for elegant, sheltered portraits or over to St Peter’s Square for modern shots with the trams and architecture. If you want a bit of "urban grit," the backstreets near the Northern Quarter are just a short stroll away.

How do we handle group photos in such a busy public area?

With 20 years of experience, I’ve mastered the art of the "quick-fire" group shot. We use the spacious steps of the Central Library or the open areas of St Peter's Square. I work efficiently to get the family shots done quickly so you can get back to your guests (and out of the public eye).

What happens if it rains on our city-centre wedding day?

Rain is part of the Manchester experience! The Town Hall Extension archways and the Library portico provide perfect outdoor cover while still keeping that grand architectural backdrop. Inside the ceremony rooms, the large windows provide beautiful, soft light even on the gloomiest days.

Is there anywhere nearby for a private moment away from the crowds?

The city centre is busy, but I know the quiet corners. Library Walk offers a bit of a wind-break and privacy, and there are several quiet side streets near Princess Street that work perfectly for a 15-minute "no-fuss" portrait session where it's just the two of you.

Do you charge extra for city-centre travel or parking?

No. Being based in Urmston, the city centre is my backyard. My Manchester wedding photography packages are all-inclusive with no hidden travel or parking fees. I believe in commercial clarity, so the price I quote is the price you pay.
