Unposed & Documentary Manchester Wedding Photographer

Hey, I’m James. I’m the eye behind Cherished Images, and I’m proud to say we recently won the Hitched 2026 Wedding Award for our approach to wedding storytelling.

For over two decades, I’ve been documenting weddings across Manchester city centre, Trafford, and the wider North West. But here is what I want you to know first: your wedding day is not a fashion shoot, and it shouldn't feel like a series of continuous, rigid configurations.

My philosophy is entirely documentary. I don’t shout at your guests, I don’t force fake smiles, and I won't pull you away from your party for hours. I use incredibly quiet, professional equipment to blend into the background, capturing the real energy, the loud laughs, and the fleeting, split-second interactions exactly as they happen. You focus on celebrating; I'll make sure the real story is captured safely.

Real-World Experience at Manchester’s Finest Venues

Having shot hundreds of weddings across the North West over the last 20 years, I've learned that Manchester’s incredible architecture introduces totally unique lighting environments. A true documentary approach means adapting dynamically to these spaces rather than fighting them with massive, industrial lighting rigs.

The Historic Gems:

The Monastery (Gorton): The soaring ceilings and huge windows create breathtaking pockets of directional light. I utilise silent shutters here to capture your ceremony using purely that ambient, cathedral-like glow—meaning zero distracting flashbulbs while you say your vows.

The Midland Hotel & Manchester Town Hall: The civic stone arches are unmatched for that classic city aesthetic. If it rains, or if you just want a quick breath of fresh air, we can sneak off for a brief, informal 10-minute stroll down Library Walk to grab beautiful, authentic portraits while keeping you dry and entirely relaxed.

Right on My Doorstep in Trafford:

Being based right here in Urmston, venues like Flixton House are practically my second home. I know the layouts, the staff, and exactly where the golden hour light hits the "Secret Gardens." We can slip out for a quick 10 minutes right before your evening reception, getting you back to your guests and your drinks before anyone even notices you're gone.

Terrified of Being in Front of the Lens? Let’s Fix That.

Almost every single couple who hires me starts our first email with the exact same sentence: "James, we love your work, but we are incredibly camera-shy."

If the thought of standing in front of a lens makes you freeze up, you are far from alone. My entire unposed methodology is designed specifically to dismantle that anxiety. There is no performance required because I don’t ask you to pose.

To help break the ice completely, my full-day packages can be paired with an informal Pre-Wedding Session. We can grab a coffee, head to a quiet park in Trafford or a relaxed spot in the city centre, and just have a stroll. Think of it as a casual dress rehearsal—by the time your wedding morning arrives, I’ll feel like a familiar friend in the room rather than a stranger holding a camera.

Simple, Honest Packages & Local Travel

I believe your wedding planning should be entirely stress-free, which is why my investment structures are 100% transparent. Because I live locally in Greater Manchester, all regional travel to the city centre, Salford, Trafford, and neighboring boroughs is completely included.

I navigate the region using a low-impact electric vehicle, meaning my logistics are clean, reliable, and completely covered with zero surprise mileage fees at the end.

How do we handle family group photos?

James: Even though my style is 95% documentary, I completely understand the value of family portraits. We will design a tight, efficient shortlist before the big day. On the afternoon, we will zip through them in about 15 minutes flat, getting your family straight back to the bar. No shouting, no fuss.

What happens if it rains on the day?

James: It’s Manchester—rain is practically part of the package! My gear is professional-grade and weather-sealed, and I specialize in working with fast, low-light lenses. If a downpour keeps us inside, I embrace the cozy, atmospheric indoor lighting of your venue to create striking, genuine images without breaking the rhythm of your day.

Are my wedding memories safe with you?

James: Entirely. Beside carrying full Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance, I shoot with dual-card Canon cameras that back up every single photo instantly as I press the shutter. The moment I get back to Urmston, your files are immediately mirrored onto secondary physical drives and encrypted secure cloud storage. Your memories are bulletproof.
